Twenty four persons from two families on Sunday narrowly escaped death when the jet-boat that they were travelling in sank in the vicinity of Marshall Falls, Mazaruni River.
Officials of the Bartica Hospital told Demerara Waves Online News that three of the passengers were air-dashed for further treatment at the state-run Georgetown Hospital. One of them, a teenage girl, was unconscious and irritable.
Police Commissioner, Henry Greene as well as a relative told Demerara Waves that one of the passengers is still missing. The missing man is Ray Manram of Canal Number 1 Village, West Bank Demerara.
The passengers were members of the Manram family of Canal Number 1 and the Persaud family from Georgetown. They included relatives who are visiting from New York.
An official associated with the tour operator said Mr. Balkarran, police and other officials Monday afternoon returned to the scene of the accident.
The boat, owned by a man named Balkarran, shuttles passengers on tours to the Falls and other areas.Traveling to the falls during high tide and bad weather is said to be quite risky.
Marshall Falls is located about 15 minutes from Bartica, a gold mining township located south-west of Georgetown.
